”Tonight I’m gonna get lucky with Minseok hyung, mark my words!”
“I’ve heard that so many times it’s not convincing at all anymore.”
Baekhyun and Jongdae had just entered the popular bar near the campus for new year’s celebration. They’d had to queue for half an hour and now that they were in and among the crazy crowd, Baekhyun wasn’t sure if it all had been worth it. He had wanted to go back home after the pre-party/event/concert at the campus but Jongdae had managed to drag him to the bar. Only to seemingly abandon him in favor of wooing his favorite hyung and long time crush. Typical.
They grabbed a beer jug, soju and glasses at the bar counter and then went to search for free tables – in vain. It was only an hour to midnight and the bar was packed with students drinking, eating, chatting and dancing. After making a difficult round through the sea of people checking the tables, they drifted on the farthest corner by the walls. Jongdae huffed and put the beer and soju down on the windowsill.
“I’m sure Minseok is already here somewhere, maybe we could fit in his table.”
“Assuming you’re able to find him in this mess,” Baekhyun said. He poured them beer for the time being – he was sure they wouldn’t be able to find themselves a table anymore. Jongdae clearly hadn’t given up yet; he chugged his beer down almost at one go while frantically messaging with someone(s).
“I’m gonna go and check again if I can find Minseok and a table for us,” he said. “Can you look after our drinks meanwhile?”
“Sure,” Baekhyun said, knowing very well Jongdae might never come back to him once he left. Had happened before. “Go and find your man.”
“I’m gonna,” Jongdae wiggled his eyebrows and Baekhyun made a face. “I intend to get a new year’s kiss tonight! Or many. I’ll be back soon!”
With that, Jongdae disappeared into the crowd. Baekhyun sighed and hoisted himself up to sit on the windowsill. He kept sipping his beer and watching the flock surrounding him. Every now and then he spotted someone he knew from classes or clubs, or friend of a friend, but no one he knew well enough to actually try talking to.
Then his eyes landed on a very tall guy, who was zigzagging through the people near where Baekhyun was sitting. He recognized the funny ears and the handsome frown immediately: Park Chanyeol, the guitarist on the campus band that had actually just performed at the earlier pre-party. The band mostly played Western rock covers that Baekhyun didn’t really care about but he had to admit that Chanyeol was a good player and performer. And hot one, too.
Now this hot, tall and talented guitarist was walking with his head down, tapping on his phone, not really looking where he was going. That was how he ended up almost walking right into Baekhyun’s lap.
“Oh, I’m so sorry–“ Chanyeol startled and froze when he lifted his eyes to Baekhyun. “Byun Baekhyun?”
“The one and only,” Baekhyun said, smiling, and decided to take this rare opportunity to try and chat up with Chanyeol, since it was the New Years, he was a bit tipsy and Jongdae had abandoned him.
“Enjoying the party?”
Chanyeol shrugged. “I was looking for my friends but apparently they ditched me and are not here anymore.”
“Yeah, friends tend to do that, I’ve also noticed,” Baekhyun said pointedly, making Chanyeol chuckle. He nodded towards the beer jug and soju.
“Want a somaek? My friend also ditched me so I’m left with more alcohol than I can possibly drink alone.”
“Oh what a problem! I do need to help you, I guess,” Chanyeol said cheekily and took the glass Baekhyun was offering. They toasted and Chanyeol hopped up to sit beside Baekhyun.
They drank, chatted about the party, Chanyeol’s band, uni and gaming. Chanyeol was fun to talk with, very animated and seemed to have a similar kind of humor as Baekhyun. He laughed with his whole body and smacked Baekhyun’s arm more than once, spilling both of their beers in the process. Baekhyun didn’t even mind since Chanyeol’s laugh was contagious and his smile very very pretty.
The clock ticked closer to midnight and Jongdae didn’t show up. Baekhyun didn’t even care about that anymore though; he was having fun and very handsome company and didn’t actually want to be disturbed right then. The more they drank the more he was thinking Chanyeol was trying to flirt with him.
“Is my face all red?” Baekhyun asked after his third glass of beer. “It gets red when I drink.”
“It looks fine, you look good!”
Chanyeol, for his part, looked quite adorable with his slightly flushed face and red ears. Baekhyun was watching him and suddenly Jongdae’s words about getting New Year’s kisses rang in his mind and he knew exactly what he wanted to do.
“Hey,” he said to Chanyeol, trying to muster all his drunken courage, “have you heard about this kissing when the year changes thing?”
“I have. But I’ve never done that myself, sadly.”
“Me neither,” Baekhyun said, looking down on his beer glass and then slowly up to Chanyeol. The other seemed to catch up quickly, raising his brows ever so slightly, small amused smirk playing on his lips. God, he was so handsome.
Chanyeol glanced at his phone. “It’s 11.53 already.”
“Then we better hurry,” Baekhyun said and hopped down from the windowsill. He took Chanyeol’s hand, pulled him down as well and into the crowd.
“Where are we going?”
“Someplace where there’s not so many people,” Baekhyun said over his shoulder, just when someone from the bar announced that it was only 5 minutes until the H-hour.
Baekhyun lead them towards the entrance, which was just a door that lead to a narrow stairway. The bouncer/staff guy that had let Baekhyun and Jongdae in earlier was nowhere to be seen, so Baekhyun and Chanyeol just slid quickly through the door and into the stairway. There the music was only muffled thumping, the air was fresher, and suddenly Baekhyun was very aware of his drunken state and rapidly beating heart. But they were finally alone.
He pulled Chanyeol up one flight of stairs; the upper floor was dark and looked like no one even used it, so there hopefully wouldn’t be any disturbances whatsoever. That was the last coherent thought in Baekhyun’s mind before Chanyeol pulled him closer and claimed his lips. They skipped the tentative soft kisses altogether and went straight to the deep and hungry ones. Baekhyun pushed Chanyeol against the wall, pressing closer, grabbing a handful of his hair while Chanyeol’s hands slid up from his ass and under his shirt.
Some part of Baekhyun’s brain registered the muffled shouting carrying from downstairs; the countdown then cheering. There were a couple of loud booms coming from outside, making them both flinch and then snicker.
“Happy new year,” Baekhyun wished.
Chanyeol smiled. “Happy new year. Was this it or can we possibly continue?”
“Oh absolutely.” Baekhyun wrapped his arms around Chanyeol’s neck. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket. Possibly Jongdae asking where the hell he was. He ignored it for now.
“I could stay right here for the rest of the night.”
Chanyeol grinned and leaned in, softly pecking Baekhyun’s lips, and that almost melted him more than the earlier deeper kisses.
you're up, 93rdfragment! :D
