”Well?” Baekhyun inquires the moment Jongdae steps into his office. He’s been waiting for his friend to appear for two hours already.
Jongdae huffs but looks satisfied. “I got it. Park Chanyeol’s number. But it wasn’t easy, I tell you. Had to buy that Oh Sehun kid a lunch and an XL sized bubble tea before he agreed to cooperate.”
“I can buy you lunch for this,” Baekhyun promises easily when Jongdae hands him a note with a name and a number. He smiles a bit to himself. He’s got a good feeling about this; he’s finally about to find a model for his upcoming collection.
“No,” Park Chanyeol says immediately after Baekhyun has asked his question. He had contacted the other and settled a quick meet-up at the photography studio he saw Chanyeol for the first time.
This time Park Chanyeol looks a bit less like a model and more like a shabby uni student that he is; he’s wearing Adidas track pants, shapeless, oversized hoodie and a black (non-Balenciaga) cap. But he’s still tall, leggy and handsome, still perfect in Baekhyun’s mind, and… he’s declining the offer.
“Excuse me?” Baekhyun tries to sound politely unbelieving, keeping the friendly smile on his face.
“No thank you, I’m not interested,” Park Chanyeol says very clearly and lowers his gaze to his phone and starts texting, like Baekhyun isn’t worth his attention anymore. That irritates him, but he doesn’t want to give up.
“This would be a great opportunity for you! The collection will be sold all the way in New York, so it might even open doors–“
“I’m not that interested in modeling, you know,” Chanyeol cuts him off. “I was thinking of quitting it soon anyway. Too much hassle combined with studying.”
“The reward would be very generous…” that’s Baekhyun’s last proper attempt, but for his shock, Chanyeol just waves him off.
“For the last time: no thank you. You should try asking my friend Oh Sehun though, he’s really passionate about this stuff.”
Baekhyun is shocked. Appalled. Frustrated. He was sure a university student like Park Chanyeol would never turn down such an opportunity, yet here he is. Turned down by an amateur part-time model. And quite rude and arrogant looking one, as well.
“Please,” Baekhyun tries one last time. “I’ve been looking for a model for my collection for months, and you’d be perfect for the job.”
Chanyeol shrugs. “Sorry, Mr. Designer. I can’t help you.”
“And there’s nothing I can do to change your mind?” He is kind of desperate.
The taller purses his lips, thinking, and scans Baekhyun up and down with his eyes. It makes him rather uneasy.
“Maybe if you’d go on a date with me as a thanks?”
Chanyeol shrugs again, grinning annoyingly. “Take it or leave it.”
Baekhyun lets out a humorless laugh. Who does this kid think he is? Baekhyun’s desperate but he has his pride, too.
“Yeah okay, forget about it,” he huffs. Maybe he’s better off without this prick of a guy after all. “I’ll find someone better.”
“Okay, your loss, I guess,” Chanyeol muses. He then quickly nods his head with lazy politeness and walks away, leaving silently fuming Baekhyun behind. Baekhyun hates that he’s sort of flustered. And he hates even more that Park Chanyeol’s last words are so right. It is his loss.
