”Too bulky. Too short. Too hipster-y. Too basic.”
The more photos Baekhyun clicks through and rejects, the more stormy Jongdae’s face becomes. When Baekhyun eventually closes the last photo, lightly shaking his head, he’s not any closer in finding a model for his upcoming collection, and Jongdae is looking like he’s at his wit’s end.
“Seriously none of those models is good enough for you?” Jongdae asks, gritting his teeth. Baekhyun is sure he’d be straight up shouting at him were they in their own office instead of a public photograph studio.
Baekhyun shrugs, a bit helpless. “None of them seem like they’d really match the clothes, Jongdae. I need the model to be Just Right, and I just haven’t found that yet.”
Jongdae heaves a deep sigh. “Well, you have to continue on your own, then. I feel like I’ve offered you every professional model in the Seoul area already, I’ve got no more.”
“I know, I’m sorry,” Baekhyun mutters. “Thanks for the effort.” He hands the pad back to Jongdae and stands up, checking the time. He needs to head back to the store soon.
He knows he’s being difficult, a bit too perfectionist even, but he can’t help it. It’s his first new collection in over a year and he needs the launch and promotion to be perfect. Pretty much the only thing he’s missing anymore is the model for the promotional pictures and he wouldn’t want to give up hope for finding The Perfect Person for them – even though they’ve been searching for about a month already and Jongdae won’t let him forget that the time’s starting to run out.
“How about that Oh Sehun kid?” Jongdae asks when they’re putting on their jackets and getting ready to leave. “You liked him well enough?”
“He’s… okay,” Baekhyun says slowly, remembering the tall, handsome and bored looking kid he’s seen shooting at the very studio a couple of times. “But he’s also not quite the style I’m looking for. The kid looks like he should be modeling for Gucci, not for my street wear collection, if you get what I mean.”
Jongdae doesn’t answer but his eye-roll speaks enough.
They walk through another smaller studio room in which some kind of photo shoot is happening, and Baekhyun can’t help looking longingly at the setting and the photographer calling instructions to the model in front of the camera. If only he had the model, they could be here shooting as well… Then his eyes happen to travel from the model and the flashing lights to the side of the studio and a tall figure standing there. A guy staring at his phone, looking like he’s waiting something. With a quick glance, Baekhyun registers long long legs, ripped black jeans, white shirt, bomber jacket and a simple cap. He stops on his tracks and stares some more. Then he calls for Jongdae, who turns around, puzzled.
“I found my model,” Baekhyun announces and Jongdae’s face turns confused/unbelieving comically fast. Baekhyun points at the tall guy standing farther.
“Him?” Jongdae sounds confused. “Who the hell is he?”
“I have no idea, but he’s perfect.” Baekhyun feels excitement run through him as he keeps scanning the guy from head to toe. His height is perfect, posture is perfect, even the style he’s sporting matches with the images in Baekhyun’s mind. “Jongdae, he’s wearing a Balenciaga cap!”
“That is part of your criteria?” Jongdae sounds incredulous and done, but Baekhyun doesn’t even listen to him as he starts skipping towards the guy.
Before he gets there though, Oh Sehun materializes from somewhere and drags the guy towards the set and the photographer. Baekhyun stalls, not wanting to disturb whatever is going on. Sehun knows the guy? Is he a model at the studio too?
Jongdae walks to him, arms crossed. “Well?”
“I need to find out who is and get him to model for me.”
“Good luck with that. Can we go now?”
“No!” Baekhyun huffs. “I’m not leaving until I have at least his contact info.”
Jongdae heaves a withering sigh.
