”Do you think he hates me?”
”He said like two words to me after the thing ended and we drove home. And stormed straight to his room once we got here!”
“I bet he’s just tired. And even if he was like, angry or frustrated, that all will be gone by tomorrow, you know how he is.”
“I guess... But man, I don’t want to bowl with him ever again!”
Baekhyun’s in the kitchen, grabbing a drink from the fridge and overhears the conversation happening in the living room. When he walks there, Jongdae’s sprawled on the coach and Minseok stretching on the floor in front of the TV.
“It wasn’t that bad,” Baekhyun says to Jongdae. “And I bet Chanyeol still takes the loss better than Yunho hyung would have.”
“I’m not so sure about that,” Jongdae says.
They hear the front door open and soon see Sehun appearing from the hallway.
“Hi,” Baekhyun says. “What’s up?”
Sehun walks to the couch and plops down beside Jongdae, immediately reaching for the remote control to change the channel. “There’s a bit, hmm, tense atmosphere downstairs right now.”
Minseok snorts and Jongdae heaves a sigh. “Because of you-know-who and you-know-what?”
“So you come here and steal the remote! Give it back, I was watching the other show.”
“It’s boring, let’s watch this movie instead–“
Baekhyun rolls his eyes and leaves Jongdae and Sehun to bicker over the channels and heads back towards his room… But changes his mind on the way, turns around and steps to the front door instead. He hurries downstairs and lets himself into the other apartment. It’s all silent and dim, save for a faint light carrying from the kitchen. No one seems to be around but Baekhyun knows from experience that probably the only one actually sleeping so early is Jongin. So he proceeds to tiptoe to Chanyeol’s door and finds it a bit ajar, a strip of light cutting the dimness of the hallway.
Baekhyun knocks softly before peeking in. Chanyeol is lying on his bed, his back towards the door, probably fiddling with his phone. He gives a short grunt but doesn’t turn or respond any further.
“I’m gonna take that as ‘hello Baekhyun, please come on in’,” Baekhyun says before properly stepping in and closing the door after him.
That makes Chanyeol turn around. “Oh, it’s you.”
“Is that a compliment?” Chanyeol doesn’t answer, only turns to lie on his back, eyes still glued to his phone. Baekhyun watches him for a moment; the other looks sulky but doesn’t say a word when Baekhyun crosses the room and sits on the edge of the bed so it looks like the company isn’t completely unwelcomed.
Chanyeol eventually puts down his phone but doesn’t initiate a conversation, fiddling with the phone ring and sporting a slight pout that Baekhyun thinks shouldn’t be adorable. But kind of is.
“Jongdae’s sure you hate him now.”
Chanyeol sighs. “Of course I don’t. More like I hate myself.”
“C’mon, it wasn’t that bad. Cheer up!” Baekhyun nudges Chanyeol’s shoulder, trying to lift the mood but the pout stays.
“Did you see the broadcast?”
“Not the whole thing. I watched the end on car on the way home. You looked like you wanted to cry.”
“I did. I still kinda do. And I can’t decide whether to quit bowling forever or to go back to practicing like crazy.”
“I vote for practicing. We should go together again sometime.”
“We should,” Chanyeol agrees and doesn’t look that sullen anymore, so Baekhyun nudges his shoulder again.
What he means is to get Chanyeol to sit beside him, but instead the other rolls closer and puts his head in Baekhyun’s lap. His hair is messy, standing up in random places at the back, and Baekhyun automatically brings his hand to it, combing gently through the locks and massaging the scalp with his fingertips. Chanyeol lets out low, content noise that makes him smile. Seems like someone’s just in need of some petting and affection.
“Feeling better?” Baekhyun asks after a moment.
At that, Baekhyun grabs Chanyeol’s chin and turns his head upwards, towards his own face. The angle is a bit awkward but Baekhyun doesn’t care and leans down to capture Chanyeol’s lips with a couple of slow, open-mouthed kisses.
“And now? Better?” he asks when pulling away slowly. He watches amusedly how Chanyeol tries to chase his mouth but soon gives up, letting his head drop back against Baekhyun’s thighs.
“I wonder what you’d do if I said no,” Chanyeol grins.
“Probably push you off the bed.”
The pout’s back, but playful this time. “Too bad. In that case, can I get some more petting and kissing?”
He can and he does. Baekhyun pulls Chanyeol up and on top of him and claims his lips again.
“Do you have to be somewhere in the morning?” Baekhyun asks between kisses.
“We have some meeting at like 7.”
“You could just sleep here,” Chanyeol suggests and kisses along his jaw, his breath tickling Baekhyun’s ear, making him squirm and giggle.
In the end, he does end up sleeping there; they cuddle and Baekhyun effortlessly falls asleep against Chanyeol’s shoulder and wakes up to his alarm at 6am. His neck is painfully stiff and mind groggy and he somehow feels like he hasn’t slept at all – but Chanyeol sleepily leaning over to smooch his cheek before he gets up and leaves makes him think that maybe it was worth it after all.
