"Better than I thought. But not good enough." Yoongi groans and buries his face in his arms. He's been working on this song for weeks and weeks and he still can't get this one part right. He needs this to be done by the Friday and it's already Wednesday and it still isn't done.
"Hyung, you should really take a break," Namjoon suggests. The chair creaks as he leans back on it. "You've been here since this morning and it's already..." He looks at his watch.
"Morning again," Hoseok supplies with a chuckle. He sighs when Yoongi doesn't laugh. "You really need to rest. Let's go home. Maybe tomorrow you'll figure out something that will satisfy you."
"Tomorrow is Thursday and should be the day when all I need to do is polish it," Yoongi whines. He gets up from his seat and climbs onto the couch, curling up on it. "But I really am tired."
"Listen, I'll go through it again and make some suggestions before we leave," Namjoon offers. "Go and take a nap or something. We'll wake you when we need to go"
"No, no, don't worry about it," Yoongi says, sitting up and waving at him to just leave it be. "I'll..." He was going to say that he'll figure something out or leave it as is. But the words die in his throat when the door opens and Jimin walks in, carrying a paper bag of food. He's pretty sure he made an unattractive noise of surprise.
Jimin is wearing one of those sweaters that always looks like he's ready for a cuddle. His hair is parted in the middle, which would normally look unattractive on any other person, but not Jimin. It looks good on Jimin, as anything does. He also has a smile on his face, which makes him so cute and sweet that Yoongi wants to wrap him in his arms and cuddle.
"Am I interrupting?" Jimin asks, stopping in the doorway and looking from Namjoon to Hoseok and to Yoongi slumped on the couch. "I brought food?" he continues with that sweet smile. Yoongi waves him over to sit next to him.
Hoseok gets up to unpack the stuff that Jimin has brought over. Yoongi pulls Jimin further onto the couch so he can lean his head on his shoulder and wrap his arms around his waist. Even though Jimin was just outside, he's very warm and Yoongi is unable to help himself and snuggle closer to him.
"Are you okay, hyung?" Jimin asks, stilling, almost like he's not breathing. When Yoongi doesn't answer, he turns to Namjoon and Hoseok, who are quiet, observing, "Is he okay?"
"He's been here for twenty-four hours," Namjoon supplies. "So, probably very tired." He exchanges a look with Hoseok, who just smirks and helps himself to a serving of sundubu-jjigae.
"Hyung," Jimin whispers. Yoongi feels Jimin's breath on the crown of his head. He hums in acknowledgment. "Do you want to come home now? You should get some proper sleep."
"I need to finish the track," Yoongi mumbles, squeezing his eyes shut further. He doesn't want to open his eyes and look at Jimin and maybe have an urge to kiss him. "It's due Friday."
Jimin says something else, but Yoongi is so, so tired. He lets himself relax, leaning onto Jimin some more if only for just a few minutes. Just a few minutes and then he'll wake up and work on the track. There's a backward sweep of his bangs and gentle press of something on his forehead. He sighs, snuggling further into the warmth.
Yoongi opens his eyes, feeling startled. It almost felt like he was falling and had to scramble to hang onto something. He sits up and looks around, confused as to where he is. He stares at the dingy couch, wondering where Namjoon and Hoseok are, before he looks up to find Jimin sitting in the chair where he usually sits, typing something on the laptop.
"What are you doing?" he asks, voice rough as he peers at the laptop over Jimin's shoulder. Jimin jumps, his hands covering the screen. "What is this?" he repeats, tapping Jimin's arm. Jimin takes his hands and places them on his lap. Yoongi squints as he reads some notes that Jimin's written on a separate document.
"I just, uh," Jimin mumbles. "I wanted to help. Namjoon hyung taught me how to, uh..." He pauses. "He said I could just save it on a separate file." He presses his lips together before sucking his lower lip in between his teeth. "I was just trying to help, hyung."
"Let's do it," Yoongi says, straightening up. He feels more awake now that there's a new idea on the table, a brilliant one, he thinks. He pulls Jimin up from the seat and pushes him towards the recording booth. "I want to hear you do it."
"Are--are you sure?" Jimin asks, pulling at his sleeves, his hands disappearing in them. "I don't want to impose."
"Jimin," Yoongi cuts him off. He boldly wraps an arm around Jimin's waist and pulls him closer. He's so warm and Yoongi just wants to hold him. Forever, if that's possible. Jimin inhales. "I think it's a good idea. I just want to be sure so let's record it."
Jimin smiles, small, but sweet. Yoongi's heart thumps inside his chest, realizing how close they are to each other. "Are you feeling better, hyung?" he asks, voice soft and gentle. He touches Yoongi's cheek, fingers sweeping through his cheekbone.
"Yeah." Yoongi isn't sure why he's whispering, but there's something very intimate happening. "I..." He trails off, not knowing what else to say. What exactly is happening? He furrows his brows as Jimin just giggles, making Yoongi think this is all just in his head. It probably is.
"Good," Jimin tells him.
They record. Jimin's voice overlaps with Yoongi's verse in the song. It's really good. For some reason, the thought that Jimin's voice goes well with his in a song, and a song that Yoongi values, makes something flutter in his stomach. It also makes his chest hurt a bit. He wishes real life was as easy as song collaborations.
Jimin hugs him when he walks out of the booth, his arms around his neck, giggling into his shoulder. Yoongi breathes deeply. He's confused. He likes having Jimin likes this, having him at hugging length all the time, being so close that he keeps thinking it's all real. When it's not. None of this is real. Jimin isn't his.
"Thank you for letting me help you, hyung," Jimin says, his smile splitting his face. "Thank you for letting me sing for you." He kisses Yoongi's cheek, startling both of them. Yoongi's mouth hangs open, his cheek tingling, his arms around Jimin tightening just a little bit that he feels Jimin stiffen. "Yoongi, hyung, I--"
Yoongi wants to keep him, even just for a little bit longer. He cuts him off with a kiss to his cheek as well.
He doesn't believe in moments, but Yoongi thinks they're having one. It's one of those times, where words are unnecessary, even though he thinks there's just so much to say. There is so much he should say. But maybe not yet. Not today. He's not ready to say them, so Yoongi just takes a deep breath and smiles.
"Let's go home?" he asks, pressing his lips together, the memory of the softness of Jimin's cheek stuck in his head.
Jimin just looks at him for a few seconds before smiling and nodding. "Let's go home," he agrees.
