”I know you hate parties, hyung, but please come with me this one time, pleaaaase?” Bambam’s face is pleading and his voice whiny, like always when he’s trying to win Jaebum over. After all the years, the whiny little brother act really shouldn’t work anymore but more often than not, Jaebum finds himself giving up in the end. Like now.
“Fine,” he huffs eventually and Bambam throws a victory fist in the air. “But! I won’t stay long. And if it turns out to be some kind of messy student party, I swear–“
“No, it’s nothing like that,” Bambam waves his hand and grins excitedly. “Don’t worry, you’re definitely gonna like it!”
They take a taxi to the very fancy neighborhood of Seongbukdong, which is the first thing to make Jaebum surprised. His amazement just grows when they get off and Bambam shows him the way.
Bambam smiles so widely and keeps an expectant eye on Jaebum while they walk through the gate to the yard protected by a high fence and expensive security system. When they walk further, Jaebum understands why. The yard is huge and the house rising before them looks almost like a mansion. It’s Western style, with white walls and huge glass windows. People who live in a house like that aren’t wealthy – they are filthy rich.
“Who lives here?” Jaebum has to ask. “And how do you know them?”
Bambam shrugs like it’s not that big of a deal. “The Kims are some kind of corporate moguls, I don’t really know. But I know their son, he’s really cool, and he invited me!”
“I see.” Bambam is a social butterfly and makes friends really easily no matter where he goes, and it never stops amazing Jaebum, who is a total opposite himself.
Once they’re in, they are guided towards the living room by a waiter (there are waiters!), and on their way there, Bambam grabs glasses of wine for them from the tray.
“This is almost like in the old days, right?” Bambam grins and passes a glass to Jaebum.
The living room (or more like a small ball room) is full of people, lots of small groups who are socializing with each other. There’s also a table full of fancy food, lots of wine and champagne and silent music playing in the background. Everything is so far from a messy student party as it can be. Jaebum has to admit that he is impressed. It still doesn’t mean that he feels himself comfortable among the fancy party and important people. Bambam must feel his uneasiness because he lightly taps Jaebum’s arm.
“Hey, relax. Let’s go find Yugyeom. And taste the wine, it’s really good!”
Bambam takes Jaebum to another room, a bit smaller, that has younger people in it and a more laid-back atmosphere. After a while of scanning the crowd, Bambam suddenly yelps and dashes towards someone. Jaebum watches him bro hug a taller guy, and then suddenly there’s a small cluster of people around Bambam. Incredible. Jaebum busies himself with his wine glass for a while and carefully retreats closer to a wall. But Bambam doesn’t forget him that easily.
“Hyung, hyung! I want to introduce you guys.” Bambam skips back to Jaebum and gestures the tall guy and a couple of others closer. Jaebum scans their faces and tries not to look as reserved as he feels. Bambam tells his friends’ names, but they are too many, some of them foreign too, so pretty much the only name that Jaebum memorizes is Kim Yugyeom, the tall guy, the son of the household.
“It’s, uh, nice to meet you,” Jaebum says awkwardly after Bambam’s done with the introductions. Couple of the friends are eyeing him up and down and making him even more uncomfortable. “I-I think I’ll go get more wine and some food now, excuse me.”
And then he basically half-runs back to the living room. This is why he doesn’t do parties.
Because of his hasty excuse, Jaebum heads to the food table and collects a pile of different dishes on his plate. Everything is very delicious, and the wine is good too, just like Bambam said. Free food and drinks are probably the only good thing about parties.
Jaebum is just done eating and getting himself more wine, wondering whether he would already dare to go back to the other room when he sees him. Across the big room, standing by one group of people, is a young man. Black hair, fair skin and black long jacket, giving out a classy and sophisticated aura like always. Jaebum freezes as he watches the man chat and laugh with the people. How in the–?
Like sensing Jaebum’s stare (but of course he would), the man turns his head and locks eyes with Jaebum across the room. A small smile spreads on his lips. Jaebum feels a shiver run down his spine and without thinking more he rushes to the side room and scans around for Bambam.
“Bam!” The younger is with the earlier bunch of people, laughing and clearly having a good time but Jaebum is too shaken, too nervous to care. He strides to Bambam and grabs his arm, this time without caring about the weird looks he’s getting.
“Wow, what is it?” Bambam looks surprised and confused.
“Bam, we need to go right now,” Jaebum says in a low voice. “Jinyoung’s here.”
