|"Again? You mean to say you've been 'hooking up' with the same guy for a while now and that you're seeing said guy another time tonight?"|
Namjoon rolls his eyes and swats Hoseok's hands away, wiping off the air quotes Hoseok had carved in the space between them. Wrong — he hasn't been 'hooking up' with Taehyung for the past two or three months; they've been helping each other with work and functioning under the rules of a reward system only the two of them will ever understand. He's not really 'seeing Taehyung tonight'; Jesus, he sees the kid every damned hour of the day, works with him every breathing moment, and talks with him on Kakao for hours on end. (And, half the time, they'd be talking about things that can never be remotely related to presentations and deliverables and whatever demands their favorite client has). And nope, they're not fucking tonight — or at least that's what Namjoon remembers from their most recent conversation. They're supposed to be working on a deck for a 9 a.m. presentation the following day. And for all of the fucking and making out they'd been doing for the past few weeks, they know better than to dick around 'til they're 100% pleased with the wording of the ideas, how one slide connects with the next, how every single idea sounds in Taehyung's most enthusiastic tone even if he's running on only two hours of rest and a venti Americano.
So he licks his lips, shakes his head. Says, "It's not hooking up if it keeps happening," and leans back against the railings as he balances a cigarette between his lips. Beside him, he thinks he catches Yoongi snort, but all that welcomes him when their eyes meet is the gentle slant of Yoongi's lips, the cock of his eyebrows, the focus in his eyes. It's the same stare he's seen Yoongi give hard-to-understand project briefs, difficult people, Seokjin when the latter is being weird, and him when Yoongi knows he's two seconds away from shifting his gaze, waving it off and saying, Sorry, hyung, I couldn't see your resting judging face through the thick wall of denial without my glasses on. Didn't mean to ignore you. If Yoongi ever thinks of saying anything, though, he doesn't push through with it. Instead, he just keeps staring, only ever arching his eyebrow even more when Namjoon presses his palm to his pocket at the prompt of a familiar buzz.
"My point is," Hoseok reasons, gaze flickering to where Namjoon's hand has travelled south. "You said you wanted to keep it a hook up, that you'd keep it a one-time thing, but now you're—"
Screwing things up, Namjoon mumbles in his head, again and again until the rest of his system can digest that even more, but too late. All he can think of now is that second buzz against his skin that makes him shiver all over, or the 'beep' that tells him it's Taehyung who'd sent him a message and not Seokjin because the guy never sends messages or emails in succession. The promise of seeing Taehyung in a few hours and talking to him about all sorts of things, and, if he's lucky, getting the chance to hold his hand under the table instead of running his thumb along the vein of Taehyung's dick. "I'm going back to work," he announces, then, after one last drag of his cigarette, and soon he's crushing the stick beneath the heel of his shoe. Hoseok will be bugging him on Kakao much, much later, he knows that, but between Hoseok shoving realities in his face at four in the afternoon and him having to ignore Hoseok spamming him on messenger with 'I'm just saying, Joon, I'm just saying!', he'll take route of annoyance any day. "Now, you two better get your asses back to your stations or else Jin-hyung will kill you—"
"You've changed!" Hoseok calls out, loud enough for him to catch even before the door to the fire exit closes behind him. He keeps walking, though, keeps his fingers curled into loose fists in his pockets, and doesn't fish for his phone until he hears Hoseok's voice thin into silence. "I don't know you anymore—"
He stops in his tracks when he hears the door click shut and takes a deep, shaky breath. Says to himself, no, I haven't, and swallows around the thick lump in his throat. Taehyung is pretty good at easing him into a faster work pace and trying new things, but for Taehyung to change him in just a few weeks? That's weird. Impossible. Silly.
He laughs to himself. Well, maybe not for long. But I guess I can, if he asks nicely.
You're up, yunsias! :D
