The AU this is set in is the same as my primordium will be. I can't stop writing in it.
Tomorrow should be easier Yoongi thinks as he watches Seokjin fret around the room. He's not doing anything in particular, just straightening the curtains, moving a boquet of flowers from one table to another. And then back again. The card that had come with the boquet falls off, hits the floor with a soft sound. Seokjin doesn't seem to register it but Yoongi bends down to pick it up.
We're sorry for your loss Yoongi reads. All the boquets in Seokjin's family's house have the same cards that reads the same as this one. The oldest ones, the dying ones is sent to them in regards to Seokjin's older brother's death. The newest, fresher ones are from his father's death two days ago. Within a week, Seokjin has lost most of his adult family. His aunts, uncles, grandparents even older cousins that barely had hit 20. His 18 year old brother was the youngest family member that had died.
Seokjin is waiting for news. His mother is in the hospital, in the same room as his dad and older brother had been. Yoongi knows because Seokjin had told him. Yoongi knows Seokjin wants to be there, but the nurses aren't letting him. It's too risky. They still don't know how the virus infects, if Seokjin is going to catch it too. So far, no one under the age of 18 have gotten it but that might be a pure coincidence. No one knows.
"Hyung," Yoongi says, partly with concern, partly annoyance. "Sit down."
Seokjin pauses in the middle of the room, have just put down a boquet of white tulips. He looks at Yoongi like a deer in headlight, his lips slightly parted in surprise. He looks terrible. Yoongi isn't one to comment on other people's looks or be bothered if they look ruffled or exhausted - they can take care of themselves.
However something tugs on Yoongi's heartstrings when he takes in Seokjin's face, the dark circles under his eyes, the dull color of his face, the redness of his eyes, his dry, cracked lips. He's the image of malnutrition and too little sleep. If he has eaten or slept at all. Seokjin's caramel colored hair is the part of him that looks the healthiest, fluffy and still somewhat moist from the shower Yoongi had ordered him to take when he had dropped by an hour earlier.
Seokjin looks the perfect image of a lost child.
Which he is Yoongi's brain helpfully supplies. Yoongi too. They're all just kids, youth that have to grow up way too fast. In a matter of weeks, months, Seokjin will be among the oldest ones. He'll be an adult in the other kids' eyes. It's terrifying.
"Sit down, hyung," Yoongi repeats when Seokjin does't make to move. Seokjin blinks, turns towards Yoongi. The oversized, white long-sleeved t-shirt dances around his waist when he turns. Seokjin's got the sleeves pushed up to his elbows but he's still drowning in the sweater. Yoongi think it was his brother's.
Seokjin pads over to the sofa Yoongi sits in, the soft thuds of Seokjin's bare feet the only sound in the apartment. He doesn't sit down, knocks his knees against Yoongi's once, twice. Looks down on Yoongi with big, dull eyes.
"Jungkookie," Seokjin murmurs softly. Their knees knock again.
"Jungkook is back at our place," Yoongi says, rising an eyebrown; not completely sure what Seokjin is getting at.
"Let's go visit Jungkook," Seokjin says, sounding more like Seokjin than he has done all day. Yoongi welcomes that change.
"What about-" Yoongi begins, trails off. Not sure how to word it. Instead, his gaze falls to the corded phone lying on the table. Seokjin follows his gaze, lets out a soft sigh, shoulders tense.
"I'll just forward the calls to my cell," Seokjin murmurs. "It's fine."
Jungkook and Yoongi live in a small cabin in the outskirts of the city close to the sea. It's remodeled to be a house barely fitting two people. They're both orphans, Yoongi's parents died when Yoongi was six; he barely remembers them. Jungkook has never known his parents. The government set them up with this cabin when they had to move them out of the orphanage due to the virus. There used to be a caretaker that would drop by them at dinner time with food and necessities. After school ended, they had showed up about three times a day.
Yoongi thinks it has been three weeks since there was someone visiting them. They still manage somewhat. Mostly thanks to Seokjin.
Jungkook lies sprawled on the floor watching cartoons on their tiny flat-screen TV when Seokjin and Yoongi enter the tiny, red house. Seokjin is quick to toe off his shoes, slips his bare feet into a pair of pink slippers that belongs to him. Yoongi hangs his leather jacket on a peg as he watches Seokjin shuffle over to Jungkook.
The house isn't big and most of it is in one room; the kitchen, the living room. They have a tiny room with a bunk bed and a drawer where they sleep, and a tiny bathroom. So Yoongi is able to see the entire scene unfold as he stands just on the inside of the house.
"Seokjin hyung!" Jungkook squeals, delighted when he notices Seokjin. His eyes tiny crescents as he sits up, spreads his arms to let Seokjin pull him up from the floor to twirl him around and bounce him on his hip. Jungkook is getting too big to be carried like a baby, Yoongi thinks as Seokjin holds him, fondly running a hand through Jungkook's messy hair. The four year old buries his face in Seokjin's neck as he babbles something about the cartoon he has been watching.
Yoongi watches with interest as the tension in Seokjin's shoulders almost melts off. It's single handedly thanks to Jungkook even though he isn't aware of it. When Seokjin turns to face Yoongi, Jungkook still balanced on his hip, he looks ten times happier than he had done just minutes ago. Yoongi used to be jealous at the way Jungkook's mere existence is enough to cheer Seokjin up. But as Seokjin's calm, relaxed face beams at him like Yoongi is the fucking sun, he can't find it in himself to become jealous when it makes Seokjin beam like that.
"Look hyung! It's Seokjin hyung!" Jungkook grins toothily at Yoongi. His tiny arms looped around Seokjin's neck, his tiny fingers combing through the hair of Seokjin's neck. Jungkook's cheek is resting on Seokjin's shoulder, he looks pretty comfortable. Yoongi finds himself wishing he could be carried by Seokjin like that.
That thought blows away when Seokjin cuts the distance between them and kisses him. Jungkook giggles from his spot pressed between Seokjin and Yoongi. The kiss is soft and brief but fills Yoongi with a calm that he only gets when he's close to Seokjin. It's a balm for Yoongi's young soul and makes his mood skyrocket as well.
Seokjin sparkles like the moon when they pull apart, kisses Jungkook's cheek because he too wants to be kissed by hyung!. However he's quick to squirm in Seokjin's arms when the familiar opening melody of his favorite cartoon. Seokjin laughs but puts Jungkook down on the floor.
Both of them watches Jungkook as he sits down in front of the TV, mouth open in awe as he mouths to the lyrics.
you're up springmaid ^^
