Too many people, too loud music, too many bottles of soju. Chanyeol finds his world extremely shaky when making his way towards the bathrooms. The floor tilts and the walls sway and he has to lean against the sink and squeeze his eyes shut for a second. How did he let Jongdae talk himself into this once again? Chanyeol rarely even drinks nowadays, and now he’s already lost count of how many bottles of beer and soju they have consumed. He splashes some water on his face and decides that he needs to drink some water, too, so he stumbles back to the bar area.
When zigzagging between the dancing and chatting people towards the counter, Chanyeol glances at the table he, Jongdae and Jongin had occupied, only to see it empty. Typical. He makes his way to the counter and asks for a glass of water. It’s cold, tastes amazing and it feels like it washes away some of the haze and drunkenness.
“I’d like to have what he’s having,” someone says beside Chanyeol and when he looks, he feels his stomach jumping at the sight of Baekhyun. Of course he’d be there too.
“It’s just water, though,” Chanyeol chuckles and finishes his glass.
“I know,” Baekhyun says. “I need it right now.”
Baekhyun gets his glass and stays there, leaning on the counter drinking it. Meanwhile, Chanyeol doesn’t know what to do or to say. He hasn’t talked to Baekhyun since The Conversation in the car a bit over a week ago, because the other had seemed pretty confused afterwards (which of course had been expected), so Chanyeol had thought of giving him some space and time to think about everything. Meanwhile, he’s been over-thinking the situation himself, which has resulted in him being paranoid and avoiding Baekhyun like a plague.
Even now, in his blissfully drunken state, he feels the need to run away from the other but for some reason, he’s glued to his spot, just standing there awkwardly and waiting for Baekhyun to do or say something. Anything.
“Park Chanyeol,” the other finally says after the longest time, looking up at him with an amused expression. “It’s quite surprising to see you at a place like this. I thought the only place you ever go to is our café.”
“Yeah, well, I usually it is I guess,” Chanyeol shrugs, deciding to ignore the obvious jab, and tries to look more sober than he feels. “Jongdae dragged me here.”
“Yeah? Well, I’m thankful for Jongdae for that.” Baekhyun leans a bit closer, like he wants to whisper something to Chanyeol (which would be impossible over the music), but he just says: “It’s hard to talk here because of the music, let’s change the place.”
And with that, he grabs Chanyeol’s wrist and leads him towards the bathroom hallway but instead of left, turns right and steps through a dark curtain hung there at the end of the narrow corridor. Chanyeol hasn’t even noticed it before. Behind the curtain, Baekhyun takes a couple steps more and accustomedly switch on a pale light bulb on the ceiling. The place looks like some weird storage space but the noise of the music and people is nicely muffled there.
“Okay, better!” Baekhyun states and turns towards Chanyeol. Now that Baekhyun is standing there right in front of him, Chanyeol realizes that the other doesn’t look that sober either. He’s swaying slightly, and his cheeks are bit flushed and eyes bright as he looks at Chanyeol, and Chanyeol panics a little internally. Even when drunk Baekhyun looks so good.
“So,” Baekhyun then says emphatically, “Mr. Mysterious. I’ve been thinking about everything you said this past week, like, trying to make sense of it all and arguing with myself, not being sure of what to believe. But you know, the more I thought the more confused I got, so I guess I just have to take it all as it is and not think too much about it, even though my common sense and rational side of my brain or whatever wouldn’t agree with it.”
“Okay,” Chanyeol says carefully. “So...?”
“So I believe in you,” Baekhyun says easily. “And your secret is safe with me, don’t worry.”
“You are... not afraid me or anything?” Chanyeol asks, kind of thankful that the alcohol in his system makes the talking a bit easier.
Baekhyun shrugs and pouts his lips cutely. “Why would I be? You’re just... you.”
Chanyeol feels his heart swelling and speeding up in his chest and he can’t help a smile spreading on his lips; all his earlier doubts and worries are suddenly gone and it makes him feel even more light-headed than before.
“I mean, you’re still basically a stranger to me,” Baekhyun says slowly, “but I guess we can work on that.”
There’s something in his gaze, something in that small playful smirk on his lips that makes Chanyeol raise his eyebrows. He’s desperately trying to keep his cool, even though his mind and heart are both freaking out.
“What?” Baekhyun raises his brows back at him. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed how you’re basically always at the café. I also have my concerned friends/co-workers constantly telling me how you apparently can’t stop staring at me–“
At this point, Chanyeol lets out a faint groan and covers his face with his hands. This is too much.
“It’s cute though,” Baekhyun says and Chanyeol hears laughter in his voice and he isn’t sure whether it makes him feel better or worse. He looks up from his hands and suddenly Baekhyun is so close, looking at him intensively with that small smile playing on his lips.
“I maybe got a bit curious myself, too,” Baekhyun admits before grabbing Chanyeol’s shoulders and pulling him down for a kiss.
jojibear, you're up!
